Hotel beds in Thailand
Hotels in Thailand come in all price ranges. Backpackers and luxury travellers alike have no problem finding their niche here - especially in popular tourist cities like Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai. Generally, any major difference in price comes down to the hotel's location, the square footage of the room and the quality of its furnishings. Service also factors into the equation, particularly at the upscale end. However, in the budget to mid-range arena, room size and comfort have a great deal more to do with the price. A budget or backpacker room will generally be small - even cramped - and it will have only the barest necessities like a cold shower, a fan and a hard mattress. In some situations, the mattress may not even be mounted on a frame; or if it is, then the frame will be relatively spartan with a few squeaky springs and little else.
Beds found in mid-range hotel rooms will be much more comfortable, despite the fact that the room rate will still be affordable by Western standards. These rooms will also come equipped with cable TV, hot water showers and similar furnishings. In this range, the price is more reliant on the size of the room, as the furnishings tend to be the same. At the luxury end of the scale, rooms are always equipped with the most comfortable mattresses and furniture you could desire on holiday. These are much more expensive than their mid range counterparts, but the price is still internationally competitive.
